The film, Avatar(2009) is one of the most sucessful movies of the 21st century, whilst simultaneously being one of the least memerable. It has for all its commercial sucess had a limited influence on pop culture. The film's storyline of an ex-marine, Jake Sulley, who in the not so distant future travels to a alian planet as a part of a scientific

research team, is interesting and well thought out. The ideas of personal freedom, self transformation and ownership explored through out the film tie in well with the storyline. The concepts and storyline make it easy to draw connections from the events on Pandora and strikingly similar events that occured during the European exploration of Africa, the Americas and Australia in the age of exploration in the 17th and 18th centuries. The tentions between the native Na'vi and the American scientist and military personel are remeniscent of those between European explorers and various indigenous peoples. This speculates that in human's exploration of space history could repeat itself, lest we be mindful of it.
