Saving Private Ryan(1998)

    Saving Private Ryan is an epic war drama film set during the Invasion of Normandy in World War II, directed by Steven Spielberg. The film was so successful that received critical acclaim and became a model for many of other war movies ever since then. The story is quite straight forward, during the war, General George Marshall is informed that three of the four brothers of one family were killed in action and their mother is to receive all three telegrams in same day. So he decided send a squad to save the fourth son(Ryan) that might still alive from the battlefield.

One of the great thing for this movie is that it bring audiences back to the "D" day in Normandy Invasion on Omaha Beach 6 June 1944. Every scene from the beginning is telling audiences what happened in the history of that brutal day. It been said that plenty old solider who ever saw the film claims it just bring them back to that unforgettable day.The way film been shot has dramatically effect witch give audiences a illusion as if they were in the same position as an ordinary solider.

    On the other hand, Spielberg also solved the story line in a proper way. Although till nowadays, people still will arguing that is it really worth to use six man's live as a change to one man. The director kind of gave his opinion in the argument of the rescue squad. In the movie the rescue squad members had a big arguing about it and nearly break the whole team. However, the Captain Miller gave a net answer which I personally couldn't agreed more. That is he personally doesn't care if it is worth to sacrifices more solider to save one, as a captain, he can't remember how many solider died because his command. He felt guilty when solider died for he's command, so he prays that all these sacrifices is to save more life, because in the battlefield there's no time to hesitate. What he can do is trying his best to made the right decision to sacrifices less and save more. So he believes that every singe sacrifice, every action they take is running the war to the end. This is also part of reason why he command to attack a stronghold while they could have been just pass through it without noticed. Because if they ignored it, other fellow paratrooper might be ambush by it. One of the best shot in the film in my opinion is here when the medic of team got shot and desperately died in front of his fellow team members, Captain Miller act by Tom Hanks was away to his crew, and was sobbing for just few second. That guilt felling of been responsible for the death of he's mate, but as a commander he can't show the weak emotion to affect other team member. No wonder Tom Hanks can be one of the Oscars best actor in leading.

    Saving Private Ryan with no doubt is one of the best war film in the history both in technic and the story which is why I'd glad to recommend to all ages audience, it is good to know the terrible history in the past and tech young ones how brutal war can be rather than fancy effect just like in some random action movies or video games.
